Katie’s work demonstrates her personal response to the surrounding world through the use of colour and texture in a multi-disciplinary way. She utilises a craft based practice with emphasis on hand stitch and embroidery as well as adopting the processes of drawing, painting and print.
Katie’s work is heavily informed by her relationship with synaesthesia- a neurological condition resulting in the crossing of the senses. She focuses on achieving a synesthetic quality throughout her practice through the use of contrasting materials. The work has a tactile quality with the intent to provoke a sensory reaction in the viewer along with repetitive processes that aim to simulate the rituals and routines of daily life.
